How can I help my child prepare for the New York State 3rd Grade Math Exam?
There are many ways that you, as a parent, can get involved in helping you child succeed. I encourage parents to look over your child's homework every night to get an idea of what he or she is currently learning in school. Secondly, check out the resources below to practice at home! Math Units
We will be studying the following information in preparation for the New York State 3rd Grade Math Test in May. 1. Algebra - Multiplying & dividing whole numbers using a variety of strategies 2. Number Sense -Using fractions to represent parts of a whole: equal to, less than, and greater than one -Solving problems based on noticing equal numerators or denominators. 3. Measurement -Measure area of a squares and rectangles (decomposed into identical rows or into identical columns) -Learn to connect area to multiplication, and justify area of shape using multiplication. 4. Geometry -Classify polygons by their sides and vertices -Relate fractions to geometry by expressing the area of part of a shape as a unit fraction of the whole. Math Practices 1. Figure out problems and find solutions. 2. Use abstract reasoning. 3. Build and critique math arguments. 4. Create math models 5. Use correct tools and strategies. 6. Be specific and precise. |
